Words cannot describe me genuine excitement for this game. It feels like such a long time since I have played a game so brutal, so demanding and so disturbing. IGN even said the extended play will encroach on your mental well being. Now that sounds like my type of game. The last time I played a game so punishing was when I downloaded mods for oblivion to make combat, and survival far more challenging.
I expect to die a lot in this game, and that’s great. It really makes you think hard about how to approach the scenario, adopting new strategies and a new play style just to progress to the next checkpoint. The gameplay looks really solid, and the graphics are breathtaking, even for such a dark and sinister world. I cannot speak to much for the game at the moment as I am yet to play it. But so much sounds right, in a wrong kind of way about this game. This is not a game you play to be entertained. This is a game you will play to be crushed, over and over, to witness how dark and evil a game can become.
Aside from the usual monsters, and dark world, the online functionality makes this game sound truly great. You can leave messages in the world for other players to see, advising them on how to progress, or even try and hinder them. On top of that you can hijack peoples games. Seriously; you can jump into someone else’s game and slay them where they stand, or, you can help them. Supposedly those evil actions carry heavy consequences, but boy does it sound fun! On top of that, helping players sounds equally as rewarding. If this game is so difficult and punishing I get the feeling you will need that cooperative style of play.
Oh, and how awesome is the preorder bonus!

All that, for the regular release price of £40. Thats a better deal then Skyrims Collectors Edition. I really wish Bethesda would release that art book on its own without that plastic statue. So, who else is getting Dark Souls? If so, and you get it on the PS3, please send me your PSN and maybe we can help each other out, or punish each other! All I can add is bring it on Dark Souls!
