Collaboration: The Train Station

Myself and Philip Conner the other day were a bit bored so decided to work on a maya piece together. The idea was simple, one of us creates a single model. Then we pass to the file on to the next person and they create a model. Then it gets passed back on. This process repeats until we feel a scene is done. We cannot edit any models after they are done or remove any. We can however duplicate them to be reused if need be, regardless who made it, or we can move it around and scale the model where needed.

I started the scene of by creating a modular piece of train track. Phil progressed to create the small station, then I created an arch etc etc… Overall we are both pretty proud of the model. The work from both of us seems to fit rather well within an art direction that just kind of formed itself. There was no discussion over how to take the scene at all, it just grew from what we made. Below are some more images, I will credit the work from each so people don’t think everything in the shots are mine. I hope we can make some bigger and braver scenes in the future since this came out really well in our opinion.

The train and the track in this scene is mine. The carriage just behind is Phil’s as is the tunnel and the stopper at the end of the track on the right.

The clocks and the stairs in the back are Phils. The coal carriage and archways are mine.

I created the power pylons, much to the unhappiness of Phil since it turned out thats what he had in mind for his next model. The tower behind is Phils model, a better picture of that further down.

The carriage, the tower and the stopper behind the carriage are all Phils models.

I created the steel bridge.

I’d love to get this whole thing moved over to UDK soon and light it properly. That way I can create a downloadable package as well that you can explore freely and look at the models in more detail.
